Complete Eye Care for the Whole Family

At Harvey Optical, we provide thorough and personalised eye care for patients of all ages — from children having their first sight test to adults managing long-term eye health. Our appointments are never rushed, allowing us to fully understand your needs and offer tailored recommendations. Whether it’s glasses, contact lenses or specialist assessments, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Comprehensive Eye Examinations

A detailed eye examination is about far more than checking your vision. Using modern equipment and a careful clinical approach, we assess the health of the front and back of your eyes, screen for early signs of conditions such as glaucoma or macular degeneration, and ensure you receive the most accurate prescription possible. Your eye test forms the foundation of good long-term ocular health.

Contact Lens Fitting & Aftercare

Whether you’re trying contact lenses for the first time or have worn them for years, our expert fitting service ensures you enjoy maximum comfort and clarity. We take time to understand your lifestyle and visual needs before selecting the most suitable lens type. Ongoing aftercare appointments help us monitor the health of your eyes and keep your lenses performing at their best.

Children’s Eye Care

Good vision is essential for learning, development, and confidence. Our child-friendly clinic offers gentle, thorough assessments designed to put young patients at ease. We monitor visual development closely, advise on concerns such as myopia, and provide a wide range of comfortable, durable frames that kids love to wear.

FAQ

Frequently asked question.

1. How often should I have my eyes tested?

Most adults should have an eye examination every two years, but some people need to be seen more frequently — for example, if you have diabetes, glaucoma, a family history of eye disease, or changes in your vision. We’ll advise you on the ideal recall interval based on your personal needs.

2. Do I need an eye test even if my vision seems fine?

Yes. Many eye conditions develop slowly and without obvious symptoms. A comprehensive eye examination checks not only your prescription but also the health of the inside and outside of the eye, helping detect issues early when they’re easier to manage.

3. What is the difference between an independent optician and a chain?

Independent practices are free to choose the best lenses, frames, and technology from any supplier, meaning you get highly personalised care and products tailored to you. You’ll usually see the same clinician each visit, offering continuity and a more personal relationship.

4. Can children have their eyes tested, and when should they start?

Absolutely — and it’s recommended. Children can be tested from a very young age, even before they can read. Regular checks help pick up issues early, supporting learning and development. NHS-funded sight tests are available for all children under 16 and students under 19 in full-time education.

5. Are eye tests covered by the NHS, and am I eligible?

Many patients are entitled to an NHS sight test, including children, people over 60, those with diabetes or glaucoma, and individuals receiving certain benefits. If you’re unsure, we can quickly check your eligibility and guide you through the process.
